How do I send personalized emails with mail merge in Gmail?

Mail Merge for Gmail helps you send personalized messages to at least one or more email recipients. you'll write one draft email in Gmail, specify the list of email recipients during a Google Sheet and therefore the Mail Merge program will automatically send customized emails to all or any these addresses in one go.

To get started, install Mail Merge for Gmail. You can either add the merge add-on in your own Google Account.

After your installation is complete:

Here are some steps

  • Step 1 - create a new campaign

Go the dashboard and setup a new campaign.

  • Step 2 - name you campaign

You can name the campaign whatever you feel like, just be sure that whatever you name it, it should be easy to recall when looked for. Ideally it should be named after the purpose it fulfills.

  • Step 3 - add relevant details

This is about adding relevant details for the campaign such as name, email address, the time you wish the campaign should go live, and most importantly what information you need to track for the campaign such as link clicks and open rate.

  • Step 4 - importing contacts

The next step is to pull the contacts into the tool on which you wish to broadcast your email. You need to make sure that you have all the relevant tags assigned to them such as first name, last name, email address, and any other information you wish to add. Also, you need to be sure that your contact file is saved in .csv format.

  • Step 5 - drafting the email

This is the step when you draft your email to be sent out, and this is the place where you can add mail merge tags. All you need to do is add the relevant tags that you want in between the email script and the tool will do the rest for you. Look into the image to get a clearer understanding about tags in the mail script. You can also add multiple follow-ups if you want and that too with customized mail merge tags.

  • Step 6 - send a test email and go live.

You can send a test email to any contact you wish to see the preview of the email. Once you find it appropriate click on commit to make your campaign live.
