Is Google Cloud Functions a full alternative of Google Apps Script
Cloud Functions doesn’t have much overlap with Google Apps Script.
Apps Script is useful when you want some code to run when you make changes to a G Suite document. Cloud Functions can’t do that.
Google Apps Script has tight integration with G Suite products (Sheets, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Calendar) etc. that is it’s primary purpose.
Google Cloud Functions also supports Java Script (through Node.js) but it’s more related to Serverless architectures and responding to different triggers from various products on Google Cloud Platform like (Cloud Storage, Cloud Pub/Sub) or simple web hooks. You might want to respond to HTTP triggers, Storage uploads, or pubsub messages. Apps Script doesn’t do any of these things.
So I wouldn’t say that Cloud Functions are full alternative to GAS, it’s just to different things and each has its own purpose as I explained above.
If you want to use any of those, you must learn first Java Script.
